Are you the Costume Society’s new Vice-Chair? The Costume Society seeks a new Vice-Chair to provide leadership and support to the Executive Committee, in particular, and the Society as a whole. We are the UK’s largest and longest-running fashion and dress history network. We bring together academics, makers, designers, curators, conservators and anyone interested in all aspects of clothing including social history, fashion, uniform and performance costume – past and present, around the globe. Our activities include an annual two-day conference, a range of study days and events each year, and the publication of the academic journal, Costume, twice yearly by Edinburgh University Press. We have five annual awards for research, conservation, curatorial and design-related activities. Duties • Promote the society and support the delivery of its charitable aims. • Contribute new ideas and fresh thinking about the Society’s future. • Assist in expanding the Society’s membership and audience. • Serve as a trustee, as defined by the Charities Commission, with responsibility for the • Society’s financial health held jointly with the other 8 trustees. • Attend 3 meetings of the executive committee (usually late Sept, mid Jan, early May) and the AGM (usually June or July). • Chair the Society’s Executive Committee, when necessary. Qualities we seek: • Enthusiastic and dynamic commitment to the Society’s goals • Some connection with clothing/costume/fashion, ie, design or production, collection or curation, HEFE education, publishing or writing. • Ability to both lead and collaborate. • Knowledge of and previous experience in the activities and/or running of the Society • Be a current member of the Society Please e-mail the Costume Society Chair and attach a short CV –
