The Costume Society is proud to announce the Museum and Work Experience Grant (MWEG) and Yarwood Grant (YG) award winners for 2021.

Many congratulations to our award winners!

The Museum and Work Experience Grant award winners are:

Harris Museum & Art Gallery and Mihaela-Adelina Diaconescu, University of Central Lancashire

Leeds Museums and Galleries and Emily Yates, University of York

The Yarwood Grant award winners are:

Megan Eames, MA Fashion Cultures and Histories, London College of Fashion: Research into the history of Welsh Plains fabric, used to make clothing for enslaved people between 1650-1850

Imogen Mann, MA Fashion Cultures and Histories, London College of Fashion: 1970s Northern Soul music subculture and fashion

Each year the Costume Society funds museum work experiences and research grants that students from around the UK can apply to. The Museum Work Experience Grant (MWEG) and Yarwood Grant (YG) are annual awards designed to support students in gaining key skills for their future careers in the museum world.

The Museum Work Experience Grant funds a student to work a minimum of two months on a dress-related project in a public museum's collection. Students work on projects that help museums document, improve storage, record, accession, mount garments for display or photography, or research the collection.

The Yarwood Grant is awarded to a student whose final MA project/dissertation investigates an aspect of the history of dress.
