The very first year that the Patterns of Fashion award was launched it was granted to two students for their costume-related research.
The first student, Shauneen Daly, was a fourth year degree student in Textile Design at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, and wrote a dissertation on Irish Women's Garments from Irish Collections, 1875-1985.
The second student was Julie Sissons, a third year degree student in Fashion Textile Design (Knitwear) at Brighton University who wrote a dissertation on The Development and Use of the Bias Cut in the Dress of the 1930's - a study in comparision.
