Join us on Friday 18th November in Manchester for a fabulous costume and menswear day out!
The Costume Society is offering its members a packed menswear day on Friday 18th November in Manchester. The day will start with a trip to see the much anticipated Dandy Style exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery, with a talk by the esteemed curatorial team Dr Miles Lambert, Rebecca Milner and Dr Shaun Cole. We will then enjoy a fantastic talk by menswear expert and esteemed senior lecturer at The Manchester Fashion Institute, Dr Benjamin Linley Wild. We will end the day enjoying a fantastic costume-themed exclusive afternoon tea at the GROW Cafe in the MMU Business School.
The Dandy Style Exhibition brings together fashion, art and photography with historic and contemporary fashion. It looks at the development of male style, image and identity, some provocative and some respectable! Members will be able to glimpse pieces not usually on display. Dr Miles Lambert and Rebecca Milner will give us exclusive insights into curating this fantastic exhibition, a must-see for any fashion and costume fan. Next, we will enjoy a fascinating talk by Dr Benjamin Linley Wild who will share 'Why don't men wear high heels? Reflections on men's footwear and gender' - a talk we can't wait to hear. Finally, led by our esteemed trustee Haleh Moravej, we will delight in a spectacular costume-themed exclusive afternoon tea.
All attendees will also get a 10% discount on the exhibition's accompanying book on the day, Dandy Style: 250 Years of British Men’s Fashion by Dr Miles Lambert and Dr Shaun Cole who both co-curated the exhibition. The book is beautifully illustrated and traces the creation of the dandy from Beau Brummell, in Regency England, to the modern fashionable British man.
This will be a unique, exclusive day out and the perfect way to reconnect with fellow members or meet fellow costume fans!
We can't wait to see you there. Tickets are now on sale so do sign up before they sell out!
