Patterns for Performance Award Winners 2023

On Saturday 15th July, the Costume Society announced the Patterns for Performance 2023 award winners at the Society’s annual London event held at the Art Worker's Guild.

The Patterns for Performance Award encourages students to design a period garment for a character in performance and is an important part of the Costume Society’s output that promotes the high standard of craft and artistry that they produce. 

This year the Award was judged by award-winning costume designer Michele Clapton and freelance costume designer Alex Fordham. Four finalists were selected for each Award to show their work on the day. 

Clara Tenfelde, Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL), was the 2023 winner for her dress Hellena's night at the Carnival in Aphra Behn's 'The Rover'

Joint runner ups were Emily Pieters, Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL), The Cunning Little Vixen and Sofia Escobar Saldarriaga, Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL),  Carnival Costume for Hellena in 'The Rover'

Highly commended was Bethan Gudgin, Nottingham Trent University, Constant from John Vanbrugh's 'The Provoked Wife'
