Patterns of Fashion Award Winners 2023

On Saturday 15th July, the Costume Society announced the Patterns of Fashion 2023 award winners at the Society’s annual London event held at the Art Worker's Guild.

The Patterns of Fashion Award honours the work of the dress historian Janet Arnold (1932-1998), a founder member of the Society and is an important part of the Costume Society’s output that promotes the high standard of craft and artistry that they produce.

This year the Awards were judged by award-winning costume designer Michele Clapton and freelance costume designer Alex Fordham.

Our winner was Beth Lacey, Arts University Bournemouth, for her recreation of a 1610 - 1615 embroidered jacket worn by Margaret Layton.

Our three joint runner up finalists were Leonor Almeida, Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL), who recreated a 1820s wedding dress, Tara Seyhun Park, Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL), who recreated a 1898 afternoon dress worn by Madame Darsonval and Remi Gene Lever, Arts University Bournemouth, who recreated a 1660s ivory, taffeta and silk bodice.
