For the last blog post of 2021, we are delighted to announce the launch of the Costume Society's new members' magazine, The Thread.
A message from our Chair, Philip Warren:
"Hello everybody and what a pleasure it is to ‘welcome’ you to the first edition of ‘The Thread’ The Society’s new Members’ Magazine. The Thread will replace the newsletter and although it will contain our usual news and updates on Society activities it will also focus on what You, our Members are up to.
We know that people join and remain members of the Society for lots of different reasons and although our shared passion for the history of clothing is the glue that binds us all together we also know that you approach that history from many different starting points and have particular focuses for your interest.
Looking through this first edition clearly demonstrates just how diverse and yet connected we all are. Alongside reviews of papers from this summer’s conference you’ll find a Day in the Life of Ray Holman as he works on the costumes for the BBC’s Dr Who; details of Terry Smith’s amazing collection; a fascinating insight into the Royal School of Needlework’s Stitch Bank; news from Millie Ross one of our MWEG winners and, of course, coverage of the amazing creative talents of the finalists in the 2021 Patterns of Fashion and Patterns for Performance Awards."
Members of The Costume Society receive copies of the Members' Magazine as part of their membership and if you haven't received your issue yet, do access e-versions on the members' site. The Thread is published bi-annually and edited by Costume Society News Editor Babette Radclyffe-Thomas.
We commission features exploring the diverse world of costume and publish articles that cover The Society's events and our members' news.
To have your costume-related news featured in The Thread or on our Blog, please let us know by emailing our News Editor, Babette so we can highlight your news and successes in upcoming issues.
We wish all our readers the best for this season. Check back in for more costume-related content in the new year.
