Costume is a dress studies journal published twice a year on behalf of the Costume Society. It is edited by Alexandra Kim and Christine Stevens, and our book reviews editor is Suzi Hall.
The journal publishes articles that are primarily object-based, from a broad chronological period and with a worldwide remit; it maintains a balance between practice and theory and concentrates on the social significance of dress. The journal also includes book reviews, new books and articles published during the year – all of which reflect a diverse range of new material on the subject. It is free to members.
Articles are welcomed from both established researchers and those new to the field. For further information contact the Journal Team.
In May 2015 Costume was accepted into the Arts and Humanities Citation Index of the Institute for Scientific Information. ISI provides a leading international abstracting and indexing database which lists the most distinguished scholarly journals in the world and this great accolade demonstrates the scholarly reputation of the journal.
Costume is published on behalf of the Costume Society by Edinburgh University Press, an academic publisher that nurtures strong relationships with societies. Details about the journal and subscriptions can be found on the EUP website.
