Online access to Costume

From 2015 onwards a superb extra benefit is offered to all members of the Costume Society.

By using the members’ log-in on the Costume Society website it will be possible to read all back issues of Costume – the journal of the Costume Society.

All editions of Costume were digitised several years ago and as a tribute to mark the 50th anniversary of the Society in 2015 the publishers of the journal, Maney of Leeds, have generously extended online access to every member of the Society.

Online you will find journals and special editions from 1967 onwards, and even an early bulletin from 1965 – the year the Society was formed. Costume is a terrific resource for everyone who studies fashion history professionally or for pleasure. This equivalent of a multi-volume encyclopedia of costume, dress, and fashion history is now available to all paid-up members of the Society.

Just a small selection of  the many celebrated authors you’ll find online are Janet Arnold, Anne Buck, Penelope Byrde, Caroline Evans, Madeleine Ginsburg, Doris Langley Moore, Aileen Ribeiro, Valerie Steele, Roy Strong, June Swann and Lou Taylor – the roll-call of contributors runs to well over 400. You can find expertise on all aspects of fashion across many centuries and many countries by joining the Society and using this great new resource.
